GoFundMe goal reached!

We’re happy to announce that we have reached our GoFundMe goal thanks the generosity of our friends and family. We now have the funds available to fix the Borough’s right-of-way as required by ordinance.

This council workshop meeting weighs in at an almost interminable two and a half hours, most of it spent on whether or not the borough will fix its fire truck or buy a new one.When I started following this body and its meetings, they held two workshop sessions, each including two of the four committees. They were MUCH easier to follow and much more receptive to questions and actual conversations with residents. These meetings are just too much and too long for residents to endure. Or maybe that's the point. Things to note: The Borough will be removing ALL parking meters on November 1. So, if you'd like to purchase one as a souvenir, get in touch with George Locke. The Borough is planning to install raised crosswalks at the intersection of Wyncote and Summit, which is an idea that is long overdue. These not only slow the traffic, they force cars to slow down at the point along the road where it does the most good -- right at a pedestrian crossing. Since his hiring, Chief Tom Scott has had exerted outsized influence over not just the policing of our little town, but borough policy as well. The Chief has led municipal meetings, a responsibility left to the Mayor (ostensibly his boss), the borough manager, or at least the president of Council. He's systematically alienated, maligned, and schemed against his officers while literally lying to the public about his intentions. Can Jenkintown afford its own police department? The answer points to "Yes", but the real question is, can Jenkintown's reputation withstand Chief Tom Scott's abuses? That answer points towards the negative.
