Ward 1 council representative Steve Spindler sent out a very short notice to residents who have opted in on his email list announcing a Zoom meeting to discuss the parking challenges on Leedom and Cedar. We can’t regard this as optimal, because this notice was not sent to everyone on those streets and because watching heads on screens is a poor way to gauge sentiment or to spark honest engagement. Jenkintown Matters believes an IN-PERSON meeting where the reps put themselves face to face with constituents in the same room would serve this issue better. Mr. Spindler is structuring this like an urban planning charrette, which are mostly wastes of time and only serve as CYA exercises for those who stage them.In his email to residents, he states: ��Based on this, I see three options on the table, all of which include free permits, with a limit of two per household.1. Permit parking on the West side, no restriction on the east side. i.e. get rid of the three hour parking.2. Permit parking on the West side, three hour parking supported by Park Mobile, which is the only way we can enforce three hour parking.3. 8 am to 6 pm metered parking using Park Mobile on both sides of the street, and residents can park for free with their permits.This is what he’s actually stating: 1. Is no option. The residents who attended the last Council meeting were explicit about what they want, and it wasn’t this. 2. States a blatant falsehood.
